How to Reach Kutch

To reach Kutch, you first need to arrive in Bhuj, which is a central travel hub well connected by various means of transport.

By Flight: Bhuj Airport is the most convenient option. There are daily direct flights from Ahmedabad and Mumbai to Bhuj.

By Train: Bhuj Railway Station is the closest railway station to Kutch and is well connected to major cities in India.

By Road: Government and private buses operate regularly. Bhuj is well connected to the major cities of Gujarat, as well as Mumbai and Pune. Bhuj is around 85 km from Kutch.

Prag Mahal: Built in the 1800s in Italian Gothic style, Prag Mahal was the official residence of the Maharaja of Kutch. Its 45-ft watch tower offers panoramic views of Bhuj city.

Aina Mahal: Located within the same compound as Prag Mahal, this two-story palace is partially damaged by the 2001 earthquake but still offers a glimpse of 18th-century artifacts and intricate mirror work. 

   Entry fees – Per person 30rs, Camera 100rs (only Photography is allowed)

   Timing – (9:00 am to 11:45am then 3:00pm to 5:45pm)

The Royal Chhatardis: These umbrella-shaped monuments are the cenotaphs of Rajput warrior rulers. Though damaged by the earthquake, they remain a beautiful spot for those interested in art, history, and culture.

Bhujiyo Fort and Hill: Located on the outskirts of Bhuj, this fort offers stunning sunrise and sunset views. You can drive partway and then walk the remaining distance.

Khari Nadi Gorge: Just 4 km from the city center, this scenic canyon has been shaped by the Khari River over centuries. Though not an official tourist spot, it’s popular for local photo shoots.

Vandemataram Memorial and Hiralaxmi Memorial Craft Park: Located 10 km from Bhuj, these spots feature replicas of iconic Indian monuments like India Gate and the Red Fort. Inside, exhibits narrate the history of India’s independence movement.

1.Vijaya Vilas Palace: Built in 1920 as a summer resort for the Maharao of Kutch, this palace has been a popular filming location for Bollywood movies like Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam, Lagaan and Commando.

2.Shyamji Krishna Memorial: Dedicated to the freedom fighter Shyamji Krishna Varma, this memorial is a replica of India House in London, which was once the base for India’s revolutionary activities.

3.Mandvi Beach: A clean and scenic beach offering activities like parasailing, camel rides, and water sports. The 72 Jinalaya Temples are located about 10 km from the beach.

1.Narayan Sarovar: According to Shrimad Bhagavata Purana, Narayana Sarovar is located where the Indus River meet the Arabian Sea. This place has witnessed the austerities of sages for ages.These temples with magnificent sculptures and intricate carvings, are a perfect of the art and craftsmanship of Kutch.Although Narayan Sarovar is situated between the sea on one side and the desert area on the other, the water of this lake is not Salty. 2.Koteshwar Mahadev Temple: Located 2 km from Narayan Sarovar, this temple is linked to the legend of Ravana and Lord Shiva’s Shiva Linga.It is said that the Shivalinga here is millions of years old. According to story ; Ravana performed severe austerities to please Lord Shiva. As a result of his Penance, Lord Shiva was pleased and said, “I am giving you this Shivalinga as a sing of my unwavering devotion. But this Shivalinga will be established wherever you put it down, Thus Ravana got the shivalinga.

3.Lakhpat Fort: Lakhpat is a small town located 33.5 km ahead of Narayan Sarovar. It has an intriguing history, once being one of the most prosperous ports in India, but eventually becoming a ghost town in ruins due to an earthquake. Today, only the remnants of the fort remain. It is hard to imagine that 200 years ago, this town in the middle of the desert was a bustling hub with a large population.

Lakhpat was a thriving port, trading with Oman, Muscat, and the eastern countries of Africa. It was a major center of trade between Gujarat and Sindh, also known as Bandar. Over time, the sands of history buried this once-flourishing port. Lakhpat is located 135 km from Bhuj, near the Pakistan border.
